15 Weeks & Sprouting Up

15 weeks

We had our first ultrasound today.  I'm about 15 weeks long.  And we have pictures to show you!  (Why? Because we weren't responsible for taking them ;).  I could have laid on the table for hours watching my kiddo move around on the screen.  It was amazing!  Sprout was very cooperative :)  We got to see him/her wave, kick, and turn over.  I think we're smitten.

A Precious Sound

We got to hear Sprout's heartbeat today.  It was surreal.

We had our first appointment today and got to hear our child's heartbeat.  I'm about 11-12 weeks along, Sprout is only a few inches, and his/her heartbeat is ~130bpm (which I'm told is good).

We managed to take several pictures of Ikea showroom displays (because what else do you do after an appointment in Atlanta, but to go to Ikea of course), but didn't have the brains to take a picture during our first appointment.  I can blame it on pregnancy brain... I'm not sure what Tim's excuse is :)

Pregnancy Photo Shoot

We told my sister about our little "bun in the oven"and she thought a photo shoot would be a fun way to announce it.  We were staying with her for the holidays so we took her up on her offer to take pictures of us.  She drove us to downtown Griffin and found some unique backdrops.

Telling The Family

There is nothing harder to keep than a happy secret you really want to tell.  Our dilemma?  We really wanted to tell everyone about the pregnancy right away, BUT we REALLY wanted it to be in person.  We don't live close enough or have the time off to just hop in the car and drive over to tell people.  So we had to do it in stages, but luckily our usual holiday schedule opened up opportunities to see people...the wait almost killed us.

Telling my sister went something like this.  I settled for "face-to-face" and called her one night making up some stupid story about wanting to test FaceTime on Tim's iPad.  She asked if we could do it some other time as she and Davey had just sat down after an exhausting day and were relishing some quiet time.  But I pushed it (knowing she'd be glad in the end), so she finally conceded to "call" on commercial.  We were sitting there with the iPad when their faces popped up on the screen, at which point my sister promptly said "Do you have something to tell us?".

{Thanks for bursting my bubble}

My sister knows me well.  They were ecstatic!  ...And very glad we interrupted their quiet time.

My dad was coming up the next weekend with my sister and her family to have a belated birthday celebration.  We wrapped up some cute baby hats and mitts in birthday wrapping paper and gave it to him.

We forgot to tell him the gift was from me and Tim.

So...after the initial seconds of confusion...he looked to my sister thinking it was from her.  Then he realized the gift was from us.  His reaction was priceless.

"This is from you?"  {tearing up commenced}
We were in Savannah for Christmas and all our family was gathered around the table for dinner.  We had wrapped up the baby hats again and told his parents we had an early Christmas gift for them.  His mom opened the baby hats and looked really confused.  Somebody said something about mixing up the gifts and we were like "no, that's the right one." :)  Then it finally clicked and everyone was jumping up and down and tearing up.  It was really fun.

My sister had done a fun photo shoot with us in downtown Griffin and we had the pictures on Tim's iPad.  We were gathered with my family at my aunt's house for New Year's Eve and everyone was sitting in the living room.  We pulled out the iPad and told my aunt to look at the pictures we had taken.   The last picture was this...

It took a few seconds...but she finally caught on...and then started showing everyone the pictures :)

We had a lot of fun sharing our wonderful news with everyone.

Two Little Lines

The short story:  we found out some exciting news today...

The longer story:  a couple things had happened over the past couple weeks that made us feel like something was just...a little off.  I had had two days in a row where I felt very...combative.  Ok sure, I can get grumpy around a certain time of the month, but this was different, and not the right time of the month. But it only lasted two days so we thought little of it.

Then...there was the Japanese food.  Let me preface this with, Tim likes to make fun of me and calls me "Half", alluding to my ability to eat only half of things.  His favorite example is that I will eat half of a yogurt and put it back in the fridge (I do eat the other half later...usually).  We had Japanese food delivered one night, and while Tim was placing our order, I had him add some wonton soup at the last minute.  Ok, so not that abnormal for most.  When the food arrived I had my usual half of the wonton soup, and then ate a large helping of food (approximately half of the portion they give you).  Then, I ate the other half of the wonton soup...and then another large portion of food...and then a fortune cookie of course.  I'm sure we probably threw out the idea of a pregnancy in a joking matter, but still didn't put a lot of thought into it.

As someone who is generally quite regular when it comes to...well, you know...I take note of when I'm a couple days late.  Tim was going to the grocery store anyway, so I flippantly said something like "Oh, just buy me the stupid test, you might as well."  For some reason, I was still thinking that it would be ridiculous if I was pregnant.  Tim came home and I took the test, telling him we would look at the results together.  I did not look (seriously still thinking there was no way I was pregnant), and Tim came in and we looked and saw "those two little lines".  My jaw dropped and I said something that was not very graceful, followed by us having an incoherent conversation, followed by a flood of various emotions.

Needless to say, our world is going to change drastically in about 9 months :)
